hey folks.. it's been a while.. I've had little to say, what can I tell you... BUT.. I now have news.. amazing, I know...

I am doing a podcast this wednesday (march 4th), at 6pm (eastern standard time for those of you in places other than me (you know, like floating in the pacific).. it's called Average Intelligence and it features me and my friend Gary. Happy happy and all that stuff... its now several days in.. and I'm still not used to the fact that 2006 is over and 2007 is now.. don't know why. Piglet mentioned what we did.. we had a GREAT time at Mara's and I got slightly fershickered on beer, champagne and port... let me say.. when she said you get a free glass I didn't know it was a freaking BOTTOMLESS glass.. they refilled it after every sip! Had the jambalaya as an appy.. it was so damn good.. gonna get a big bowl of it next time. TurDuckEn wasn't as good this time.. but I still finished it.. and the rice pilaf was so damn buttery good. Also.. once again.. that bluegrass pie is amazing. ok... we got it.. Mara's is a good place to eat.. ok.. but what about the penguin rant you say?

We saw Happy Feet.. finally... and well.. it wasn't great.. there are going to be major major spoilers here, so if you've not seen it and want to stay "pure" then don't read my rant.. but then.. you might miss some funny.. so choice is yours. the animation is amazing.. but what I figured to be a sweet, if simple story about a penguin winning people over with his dance moves (savion glover.. you are a great penguin) turns into a rather heavy handed environmentalist story about saving penguin habitats and food chains. Now there are several problem in the flick. the biggest one being.. at one point, Mumble, the main character with Elijah Wood's voice, and apparently, eyes, swims after a boat.. ok fine.. he wants to "talk to the aliens" (we're the aliens) so he manages to swim.. from antarctica to... what seems to be san francisco.. I'm sorry what? seriously? ok he's found passed out on the beach and he's placed in, what could be a zoo (a zoo that just decided to throw random penguin species together willy-nilly, no regard for environments or space or dietary needs or anything, also that has no problem with taking penguins near death and just putting them wherever) or it could be some trendy resturant type club.. which, rather than a koi pond.. has a penguin habitat... its not really clear. Ok.. so mumble tries to talk.. and naturally we don't speak penguin.. so he then starts to dance... and its a sensation.. in the next scene.. he's BACK HOME.. but with a tracking device.. because that is EXACTLY what humans do.. this thing can dance like a person.. we better LET HIM GO.. right.. sure.. so he teaches the other penguins to dance and the humans fight the governments to save their habitats so the fish come back. yeeaaaahhh.. just like real life. And then, the central love story is never really resolved, though we assume they hook up.. Robin Williams is fun as both a latino penguin and a Barry White penguin.. Hugh Jackman and Nicole Kidman are good as the parents Memphis and Norma Jean.. who speak like Elvis and Marilyn, respectively.. (I liked that a lot) but eh.. it was too long, too "see? don't you want to protect the penguins now?" I'd have preferred if they kept Mumble a baby.. it was a good movie while he was a baby..

anyway.. happy happy..
